Faculty Position in Elementary Mathematics Education

Stanford’s School of Education seeks nominations and applications for a scholar engaged with the theory and practice of elementary mathematics teaching and learning.  Academic rank for this tenure line position is open.  Candidates’ research and experience should be related to the teaching and learning of elementary mathematics. K-12 teaching experience and/or previous involvement in teacher education is highly desirable. A primary responsibility for this position will include contributing to the development of a new program in elementary education and teaching courses within the program. The elementary teacher education program at Stanford aims to cultivate teacher leaders who share a set of core values that include a commitment to social justice, an understanding of the strengths and needs of a diverse student population, and a dedication to equity and excellence for all students. The successful candidate will also be teaching courses and advising students within the School of Education at the masters and doctoral levels.

Senior candidates should have an excellent record of research and teaching. Junior candidates should have completed a doctorate before the date of appointment and show evidence of excellent research potential.

Director of Leadership Degree Programs

The Stanford University School of Education (SUSE) at Stanford University seeks a qualified candidate to be the Director of Leadership Degree programs (LDP). This is an open-rank parens (teaching) position and a voting academic council member. The position is reviewed for advancement and renewal every five years.

The position entails two roles: one as a researcher/teacher and another as director. The faculty member is expected to teach two courses a year, in addition to weekly master's seminars; oversee the Policy, Organization, Leadership Studies (POLS) MA and Joint MA/MBA programs that serve 60-70 graduate students every year; and provide service to the School and University.

As Director, the faculty member oversees the recruitment and admissions process, and directs and contributes to the academic and extra-curricular experiences for students in both programs. The director helps create a collaborative culture between the two programs and provides feedback across the School: with other faculty, Academic Services, Career Services, Alumni Relations, and External Relations so as to inform program planning and create a seamless experience for participating students.  The Director also serves as a liaison with organizations throughout the University, especially the Graduate School of Business (and MBA Admissions Office) to establish communication systems between the two schools and design innovative outreach efforts.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of educational institutions and policies in K-12 and higher education, including emerging educational innovations and entrepreneurial solutions. Experience in and knowledge of the management and policy opportunities in education, including the academic and non-academic experiences that best prepare graduate students for these opportunities; knowledge of and experience in educational leadership roles; organizational and leadership skills; desire and ability to advise students regarding academic and professional pursuits; desire and ability to work with faculty administrators and students in the School of Education and the Graduate School of Business.  

Advanced degree or equivalent skills and relevant experience required.

Behavioral Neuroscience

The Stanford University School of Education seeks nominations and applications for a tenure-line appointment in behavioral neuroscience, with an emphasis on research that addresses problems of education and learning. This is an open-rank search, but with a strong preference for candidates at the assistant or associate professor level. The ideal candidate’s expertise may range from learning and performance in specific instructional topics such as reading, to more general competencies integral to education such as executive control. Candidates with outstanding scholarship from all relevant subfields within neuroscience will be considered. The successful candidate will contribute to programs offered through the school's committee on Developmental and Psychological Sciences. In addition to vigorous, programmatic research, responsibilities will include teaching and advising at the master's and doctoral levels. Stanford University has a number of strong initiatives in neuroscience that provide an excellent collaborative atmosphere and infrastructure support.
