Master's Programs

The master's programs are one-year, full-time intensive programs that integrate educational theory and practice. The small cohort sizes provide an intimate setting for academic inquiry. The programs foster individual contact with faculty and fellow students. The boundaries between schools at Stanford is low so that our students commonly take relevant courses outside the Graduate School of Education. MA students go on to hold leadership roles in the field of education and in many cases to pursue doctoral study.

Doctoral Programs

The doctoral programs at the Stanford Graduate School of Education produce educational research that is both rigorous and relevant to educational policy and practice. The preparation of doctoral students goes hand-in-hand with the faculty’s research activity, and apprenticeships on research projects are a major part of doctoral research training. Doctoral students develop deep disciplinary and interdisciplinary expertise and are prepared for leadership roles as educational researchers.
